My Journey and Mannahrett Homes Story

My Family is from Tucker, GA.  I am a fourth generation home builder.  My Grandad, Robert Pierce, started out laying brick when he was a young man.  He laid brick on the Sears Building in Atlanta, now Ponce City Market.  After learning and perfecting his craft he began hiring other masons and formed his own brick company.  After many years in the brick contracting business he set his sights on a new endeavor.  He began building homes.  His first project was financed by his own savings,  sweat, and a material advance from Cofer Brothers, Supply in Tucker, GA.  After proving himself in the industry and many homes later Mr. Cofer introduced him to Tucker Federal Bank.  He began a relationship with Tucker Federal to finance his projects.  He built many homes over the years in many neighborhoods and communities.

My Dad, Gary Pierce joined him after school.  My Grandmom wanted my dad to become a dentist, but I guess building is just contagious.  It gets in your blood.  My Dad continued building homes for many years.  He as well as my Grandad had much success.  I loved hearing the story of when they went way out to Dunwoody to build houses when one of the first sections of 285 was put in.

With their guidance I began my career as a home builder….  Well not really…  Let me start over.   I began my career as a home sweeper outer.  You can learn a lot behind a broom handle.  I started sweeping houses out and cleaning in the summers for some income when I was young.  You see my Granddad and my Dad are not the type of people whom just give you something.  I learned at an early age that everything is earned.  There’s no magical fast route to learning or success.  I really didn't appreciate it at the time, but they were helping shape me as they always did.  I continued working with them for many years gaining understanding of the process.  Gaining the ability to discern between a job done right and a job done wrong.  Watching and learning how a home is built.  They would continue to help me  and nourish my home building and construction skills for many years.  They vetted me when I applied for my first job.

I started working as an assistant Superintendent for a well renowned home builder Inc in 1997 & worked my way up the ladder to Project Manager.  I gained much knowledge there.  When I began as Assistant Superintendent I reported directly to the Superintendent, Project Manager and weekly to one of the owners.   They were a semi custom/custom production builder.  I learned the systems, checks, and balances that made the company tick.  It ran on a large scale like a well-oiled machine while delivering a custom and beautiful end product to the customer.  I managed & oversaw the construction of approximately $18 Million in new homes while I worked my way up to Project Manager with them.

I joined my Grandad and Dad’s company Ridgevalley Builders.  I brought my systems knowledge and skill set to help.  I worked in the family business for 13 years, working my way up from project manager to Vice President.  We built homes in 3 subdivisions at a time and custom built homes for customers in various locations.  After instituting systems for plans, specs, cost control, & construction management as Vice President I would oversee sales, marketing, lot, and land acquisition.   Over the years I managed these processes which accounted for $30 Million in sales.

In 2012 I started HP Design Build, LLC.   There was not much new home construction business and I adapted quickly to home remodeling and renovations. For several years I provided top quality home  renovations including all the basics; from painting, roofing, flooring, cabinets, counter tops, kitchen, bath, and basement finishing  to  adding master suites & tearing down existing older homes on lake Lanier and building back new. These projects ranged from 1,000 to 650,000.  By 2014 home building activity started for me again.  I built custom contract homes from 300,000 – 2,750,000.  I also built spec homes to sell for 255,000 to 595,000.  I had many years of success as President of HP Design Build which continues today.

I’ve had many ask why Mannahrett Homes??  Where did that come from??  What's with the name??  I had heard many people say before what is your “Why?”, you have to have a “Why”.  I always thought that’s odd… my why is because it’s my God given skill and I have to make a living.  I was wrong.  After all…  Time we cannot add to or take from.  My “Why?” is my Family. My wife Kerry and I  have 3 amazing children. Mannahrett is a combination of my children’s names. It was important to me to include my “why” into the name of our company to not only honor them, but to remind me every day why I do what I do.
